Privilege & Culture: The Challenges for White Clinicians

It is a clinician's duty to recognize privilege and be aware of cultural differences and systems of racial oppression in order to have essential conversations with coworkers and clients. This course will provide a culturally competent understanding of the language, awareness and skills needed to have such interactions. Thought-provoking discussion and activities, offer mental health professionals the opportunity to build a culturally relevant toolbox of skills to work toward micro and macro level change.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Define key terms such as privilege, unconscious bias, microaggressions, racism, equity, color blindness

and intersectionality

• Discuss ways in which privilege impacts relationships with coworkers and clients

• Describe contents of a culturally relevant toolbox and skill set required to affect change in practice

Presenter: Constance Palmer, LCSW

Ms. Palmer, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, who is an experienced teacher, presenter, therapist, and school counselor with more than thirty years of working with children, youth, and families. She is the owner of Therapeutic Learning Connections which offers social, emotional learning workshops to community organizations, schools, and workplaces. She is also a Grief Educator for Imagine, a Center for Coping with Loss which offers grief support groups and grief education.  

CE's New Jersey:

This course “Privilege & Culture: The Challenges for White Clinicians” and the trainer, Constance Palmer have been approved by the Addiction Professionals Certification Board of NJ. This course, provided by Behavioral Health Matters, approval #403061824REC3s is approved for 6 continuing education credit hours by the APCBNJ. Credentials issued by the APCBNJ, the NJ Board of Marriage and Family Therapy Examiners and the NJ Board of Social Work Examiners recognize such courses. This 3 CE course is approved for social work continuing education hours in accordance with N.J.A.C. 13:44G-6.4c12.

Behavioral Health Matters, LLC is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers; provider approval #SW-0443. Social workers attending this Live-Online course titled: “Privilege: The Challenge for White Clinicians" will receive three (3) continuing education contact hours.

CERTIFICATES:

Participants must be present for the duration of event, answer all roll calls and complete a Course Evaluation to be eligible for a Certificate of Completion that will be sent via email within 2 weeks.  

TO REGISTER:

Click on the pink "Reserve Tickets" tab at top of page on the right. A new page will open; select the tab that reads: "Order as Guest", enter basic information then click the "Continue" button which opens a new page. Then enter attendee information and click "Continue".  Review and click blue “Pay with Card” tab which opens a secure payment page. ACCOMMODATIONS:

If you require special accommodations, please submit a written request along with the completed registration and payment AT LEAST 30 DAYS PRIOR TO THE EVENT. Requests not submitted in a timely manner may not be able to be processed or fulfilled in time for the event. This request must be submitted via email:  Contact@BehavioralHealthMatters.com. CANCELLATION POLICY:

Registration is not complete and space is not reserved until payment is processed and you receive a second confirmation email from BHM. Please provide a reliable email and phone # when registering. If you are unable to attend a training event, you must notify BHM promptly. ALL cancellation notifications must be made via email: contact@behavioralhealthmatters.com; type “Refund Request” in the subject line. The refund request email must be submitted ONE WEEK (7 DAYS) PRIOR TO DATE OF EVENT. After such a date, cancellations, "no-shows", log-in issues, full/partial attendance, etc. will NOT be eligible for a refund. ALL REFUNDS ARE SUBJECT TO A $15.00 (FIFTEEN DOLLAR) PROCESSING FEE. Substitutions are not allowed for virtual courses.
