DSM-5-TR: What is New and How to Use it

Revisions made to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fifth Edition Text Revision (DSM-5-TR) include more emphasis on culture, race and language as they relate to diagnostic processes. This workshop will review the basic facts about the DSM5 and its’ predecessors as well as a new diagnosis and updates for conditions in the DSM-5-TR. Participants will review on-line assessment tools provided to assist clinicians, not only regarding the diagnostic approach, but to understand the relationship between diagnostic categories previously viewed as distinct.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss changes made between the DSM5 and the DSM-5-TR
  • Describe the importance of DSM-5-TR emphasis on dimensionality
  • Apply diagnostic criteria in the DSM-5-TR to specific diagnoses through case studies
  • Identify three assessment resources to support the diagnostic process
