Opioid Use Disorders: Risk and Prevention

As the opioid crisis lingers, it is apparent that no one is immune from developing an Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). This course examines the biopsychosocial risk factors for OUDs. Participants will discuss engagement and assessment techniques helpful in the diagnostic process. Ironically, some of the same risk factors can be harnessed in prevention. Participants will explore prevention efforts including strategies designed to address opioid diversion.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
• Identify risk factors for the development of OUDs
• Summarize how an OUD diagnosis can be discussed with clients
• Describe prevention strategies to combat OUD including Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and diversion
• List client and provider resources for the treatment of OUD
